Garden Seeds and Plants

I want to plant a small garden corner, about 3×4 ft, in my courtyard. I'm thinking to get one of those mats of flower seed inauguration of a new product and some flowering plants mescolareate. It is too late in the season for this? They are in the southeast of us, zone tn / ky and is around 70/80 of temp usual right now.
